Carstairs water rates on the rise starting Jan. 1

Metered water consumption in 2025 will be $3.36 per cubic metre, up from $3.21 in 2024

CARSTAIRS - Some utility rates in Carstairs are set to increase slightly starting in January, with work ongoing on the 2025 capital and operating budgets.

Metered water consumption in 2025 will be $3.36 per cubic metre, up from $3.21 in 2024.

The water infrastructure and maintenance fee will remain unchanged at $15 per month.

The wastewater rate for 60 per cent consumption will be $2.02 per cubic metre, up from $1.93 in 2024.

The wastewater and maintenance fee will remain unchanged at $6.40 per month.

The garbage collection and disposal fee will be $24 per month, also unchanged from 2024.

“Water rates were raised $0.15 by the water commission, that is why the increase,” the town's chief administrative officer, Rick Blair, told the Albertan.

Carstairs along with five other municipalities are members of the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission.

Council is expected to consider the capital and operating budgets early in the new year, with the next regularly scheduled council meeting set for Jan. 13.
