CARSTAIRS - RCMP officers are continuing crime enforcement, crime prevention, youth interaction and increased visibility efforts in the community, officials said.
At the recent regularly scheduled council meeting, Didsbury RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve Browne presented council with a report on recent crime statistics and enforcement work in the municipality.
The Town of Carstairs is in the Didsbury RCMP detachment area.
During the recent quarter, RCMP officers conducted dozens of patrols in town, he said.
“During this reporting period there were 92 proactive patrols within the Town of Carstairs,” he said. “There were 163 traffic stops with 11 violation tickets issued for moving/non-moving offences. One impaired driving offence occurred. There were 190 files generated within the town limits.”
During the reporting period officers responded to 45 calls for service within the town.
Criminal Code charges sworn during the reporting period included uttering threats with one adult male charges, flight from police with one adult male charges, and one break and enter with one adult male charge.
There were no habitual offenders being monitoring in the town during the reporting period.
Regarding community consultations during the reporting period, officers attended several community events, including the 2024 Carstairs Neighbourhood Party and the Carstairs Heritage Festival and Parade of Kilts.
Mayor Lance Colby told the Albertan the report highlights the good work being done by officers.
“It’s a comprehensive report,” he said.
Council accepted Browne’s report as information.
