CARSTAIRS - The Carstairs Nature Space (CNS) continues to rely on families and other volunteers to help keep the beautiful community resource up and running this summer, say officials.
Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA Nathan Cooper was recently on-hand to present a $120,000 matching Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) provincial government grant in support of the park.
The Carstairs Nature Space is a joint project of Carstairs & District Agricultural Society and the Town of Carstairs.
The multi-acre park is south of the Carstairs rodeo grounds.
It was started in 2018 and continues development in 2024. Including the new CFEP grant, almost $300,000 has been raised for the project.
To date, more than 5,000 trees and bushes have been planted at the site.
There is a toboggan hill and a children’s activity area.
There are demonstration sunflower groves, pumpkin patches and garden.
There is a large meeting and visitor space, with benches and picnic tables throughout the park.
Neil Carlton, the volunteer manager and community garden manager, said in a release that, “The Carstairs Nature Space committee really appreciates the donors, the many volunteers and the grant funding.”
