CARSTAIRS - Lance Colby says he does not plan to seek re-election as mayor of Carstairs in the October 2025 municipal election, but may seek a council seat.

The nomination period for the next municipal election opened on Jan. 1 and will run until Sept. 25.

“I will be stepping down as mayor but I am considering running for council,” Colby told the Albertan. “I believe it is time for another person to take the leadership as mayor.

“I was very fortunate as mayor to have well balanced and functional councils as well as two quality chief administrative officer during my tenure. I love our town and feel I still have the energy and commitment to be a positive influence on council.”

First elected mayor in 2003, Colby is the six-term Town of Carstairs mayor.

While he doesn’t plan to seek re-election as mayor, Colby says there are many projects and plans he would like to continue to work on over the next council term.

“The next few years are going to be busy with development, building a  new RCMP detachment and a new water reservoir,” he said. “We still need a seniors lodge, more commercial and industrial development and I would like to be a member of council to see these projects move forward as our town continues to grow.

The Albertan has asked all Carstairs council incumbents about their respective plans for the next council term. See upcoming editions for further articles.
