CARSTAIRS - Town council has approved an updated safety policy for the municipality, including a requirement for yearly inspections.
The move came by way of motion at the recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting, held in person and online.
Originally put in place in April 2004, the updated policy 12-030-22 included responsibilities of the chief administrative officer and all employees.
The updated policy includes three guidelines.
All mechanical and physical safeguards shall be maintained to a least Occupational Health and Safety standards.
Yearly, a program of safety inspections will be undertaken to find and eliminate unsafe conditions and practices, to control health hazards and to comply with the safety and health standards for every job.
The safety information in this policy and safety program manual does not take precedence over the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
Responsibility of the chief administrative officer under the policy includes ensuring the training of all employees in good safety practices, providing leadership of the safety program and for providing the safeguards required to ensure safe conditions, and to undertake a yearly safety review.
All employees are required to be ‘responsible and accountable for each and every one of the municipality’s overall safety initiatives” and are “responsible for whole-heartedly cooperating with all aspects of the safety program, including compliance with all rules and regulations and for continually practicing safety while preforming their duties.”
Council passed a motion accepting the new policy.
