We’re all about proving that winter in Alberta is just as fun and exciting–if not more–than summer. From the awe-inspiring prairies to the iconic Rocky Mountains, our province is filled with gorgeous destinations that make the colder months as enchanting as can be. Today, we’ll turn our focus over to Jasper, where you’ll find Pyramid Lake and an endless array of winter activities in one of the most beautiful settings on the planet. Whether you want to dive into all the winter sports imaginable or you’re more interested in a delicious hot chocolate with an even more delicious view, this is the destination for you.
Ice Skating & Snowshoeing
While we’re blessed with a wide variety of stunning places to ice skate in nature, Pyramid Lake sure does take the cake. Even better, The Pyramid Lake Lodge maintains the ice so you know you’ll be getting it in great cognition. You will love skating around or playing a little game of hockey surrounded by the snow-covered mountains. There are skate rentals available, if you need. If you prefer a more leisurely winter activity, snowshoeing is another great option that you can do right around the skating area. There are also tons of surrounding trails if you want to make your journey a little bit longer. Of course, rentals are also available.
Sleigh Rides & Special Events
If you want to be fully transported into a winter wonderland, you might as well take advantage of the magical sleigh rides offered by the Lodge. Available until the end of February, we can’t think of a cuter thing to do with a date, the family, or your friends. Also, we highly recommend keeping your eyes out for other festive and special events taking place when you’re in the area.
A Walk to Pyramid Island
Did you know that there’s a pretty little island in Pyramid Lake? Luckily, a beautiful bridge makes it super easy to get to. There are well-maintained paths for you to walk on, and gorgeous photo opportunities every way you turn. You don’t want to miss your chance to check this little slice of heaven out.
Cross-Country Skiing & Fat Biking
There are a variety of trails in the area that are perfect for fat biking and cross-country skiing. Equipment rentals for both are avalible in the lodge. There’s a 15km trail along Pyramid Mountain’s shoulder, perfect for cross-country skiing, and a 5km downhill route–ideal for fat biking–on the Pyramid Lake Trail that take you down to town. No matter your level, you’ll find the perfect path.
A Luxurious Night’s Stay or Meal
Last but not least, you could go the full mile and enjoy a stay at the beautiful lodge. The views are captivating, the rooms are elegant-yet-cozy, and there’s an incredible, upscale restaurant for you to enjoy an amazing meal and a glass of wine after a day of gallivanting.
