MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY – A worker at one of the Mountain View Seniors’ Housing (MVSH) lodges has gone into self-isolation after a recent trip overseas as a precaution against the COVID-19 virus, Reeve Bruce Beattie said Wednesday, March 11.

“We did have one staff member come back from overseas and she is self-isolating from the unit,” said Beattie, who is also the chairman of MVSH. “She has not shown any symptoms. We are just making sure that we are taking every precaution to make sure that we don’t introduce it into any of our lodges.
“There is no risk to our (lodge) population because that person has self-isolated.”

MVSH has lodges in Carstairs, Sundre, Olds and Didsbury.

Beattie declined to say which of the four MVSH lodges the worker is employed at or which country the worker had travelled to.

There have been no reported cases of the virus amongst any residents or staff at any MVSH facility, he said.

MVSH CAO Sam Smalldon has been providing daily updates to Beattie and other board members on the overall COVID-19 situation, he said.

“We have protocols in place at all our lodges to ensure that we are trying to minimize any risk that might occur,” he said. “That is a population that is at risk from this virus.

“We’ve always had those protocols in place but we are just making sure and emphasizing the importance of them.”

A call to Sam Smallon on Wednesday afternoon was not immediately returned.

COVID-19 is an infectious disease with symptoms such as cough, fever, and in severe cases, pneumonia.
