CREMONA - The Cremona Coyotes senior men’s hockey team is set to play its first-ever game as a member of the Ranchland Hockey League (RHL) on Saturday night at the Cremona Arena.

The RHL is a senior AA league with seven teams: Lethbridge, Siksika, Nanton, Fort Macleod, Kainai, Pikanii and now Cremona.

The 18-game 2024-25 RHL season begins this weekend, with the Coyotes hosting the Siksika Buffaloes starting at 8 p.m.

Ryan Smiley is the team director and a forward on the team. He says the plan is to dress 20 players each game, with a total of about 28 on the overall roster.

“Everything is looking good for the upcoming season,” he said.

The Coyotes began skating in mid-September at the Cremona Arena in preparation of the 2024-25 season.

The team is looking for volunteers and board members to help manage game day operations together with the Cremona Ag Society.

The Coyotes were formed two years ago as an AAA team in the Chinook Hockey League, but did not play in the 2023-24 season.

Following Saturday's game, the Coyotes are back home on Oct. 12 against Nanton.

Anyone interested in getting involved with the new team can call Ryan at 403-862-7896.
