Cremona native signs with Toronto Maple Leafs' development team

The Toronto Marlies announced Thursday that the hockey club signed a Cremona native to a two-year American Hockey League contract.

The Toronto Marlies is the primary development program for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Defenceman Rhett Parsons, 21, recorded six goals and 11 assists in 68 games in the 2023-24 season with the Western Hockey League’s Medicine Hat Tigers while serving as assistant captain.

According to the team, through four seasons with Medicine Hat, the Cremona native recorded 52 points (17goals, 35 assists) in 219 games.

The six-foot, three-inch tall, 213-pound defenceman attended the Toronto Maple Leafs 2024 Development Camp and the Prospect Showdown, Parsons’ new team noted.

The Marlies head to CAA Arena for a series of pre-season games against the Laval Rocket (Montréal) on Saturday, Oct. 5 and the Belleville Senators (Ottawa) on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Toronto opens its 20th season with a back-to-back at home against the SanDiego Gulls (Anaheim) on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13.
