CREMONA - Mountain View County council has reviewed 2021 Cremona and District Recreation Board (CDRB) funding approvals totalling $199,610.
The funding was approved by the Cremona and District Recreation Board committee on May 31 for Cremona and Water Valley. The update to county council came during a recent regularly scheduled council meeting.
The CDRB distributes funding on behalf of Mountain View County due to the high percentage of rural residents in the Cremona district.
“The board is responsible for ensuring that quality of life opportunities are available for residents of the county, within the Cremona recreation district, through the development, management and support of recreational and cultural services,” said Christopher Atchison, the county's director of legislative services.
The funding is based on $79.94 per capita, for 2,656 residents.
Funding approved for 2021 included $14,400 to Chinook’s Edge Arts Foundation for drainage, internet and picnic tables.
Cremona and District Ag Society will receive $69,000 for washrooms, public skate and insurance.
Cremona Community Engagement Society will receive $10,000 for community programming.
Cremona Minor Hockey Association will receive $10,000 for ice fees, power skating and insurance.
Cremona Municipal Library will receive $7,500 for reading program, craft club, books and DVDs.
Cremona Skating Club will receive $20,200 for ice fees and coaching fees.
The Village of Cremona will receive $6,000 for Canada Day celebrations.
Water Valley Community Association will receive $14,000 for Water Valley Days, movie, Celtic Festival and rink lights.
Water Valley Public Library will receive $8,150 for operating, summer reading, and laminator.
A total of $142,065 was approved in 2020. Funds not distributed in any given year are held in reserve for future allocations.
