CREMONA - A man charged in the May 2021 death of Cremona-area woman Brenda Ware will be going to trial in January, court officials said Monday.
Philip Jeffrey Toner faces a charge of second degree murder. Ware was last seen in Didsbury on May 4, 2021 and found deceased in Kooteney National Park near Radium, B.C. two days later.
Toner was arrested and charged on May 11 and remains in custody.
His jury trial in King’s Bench in Calgary was originally scheduled to start on June 12 but was adjourned at the request of his lawyer.
A new trial date of Jan. 15 to Jan. 26 in Calgary King’s Bench has now been set.
A pre-trial hearing has also been scheduled for Nov. 20-24 in King’s Bench.
Ware lived near Cremona and worked as a hairstylist in Sundre.
