CREMONA - With all that's going on with COVID-19 and the self-isolation of most people, social media has become more and more important in keeping people connected.
Facebook has often been used as the catch-all place for all different kinds of groups to meet up.
One Cremona resident, Lynda Sheane Gregory, came up with the idea for a Facebook group, Cremona/Water Valley COVID-19 Support Group, to bring different people from that area together to help each other out as needed.
"I live in a small community and know quite a few people and noticed that a lot of people were concerned about how long the COVID-19 (measures) would last and how people would become isolated," said Gregory. "So I thought I'd start a Facebook page for everyone to talk about their concerns or to help those who need it."
Gregory said it's also a hub to help deliver groceries to elderly or anyone else who wants or needs groceries.
"Anyone who goes into the city shopping can grab things for others who can't get out of their homes," she said.
Gregory said the response so far has been very good.
"Within a few days of making it we had 200 people join the page," she said. "It brings us together as we help each other and I feel that's important even if we can't be together in person. It also keep us in touch so that we are there for each other's mental and emotional support."
