DIDSBURY — On Sunday, Sept. 27 the Didsbury and District Historical Society (Didsbury Museum) unveiled 16 banners that were created to commemorate some of the local veterans that served our country.
Following current COVID-19 guidelines the private reception was attended by several family members and friends of the veterans from the four western provinces.
In early October each year the Town of Didsbury will place the banners on the light posts along 20th Avenue from the hospital west to 16th Street, where they will remain until mid-November.
This unveiling marked the second year of a multi-year project that has now created a total of 29 banners remembering local veterans.
The Veterans Banner Project is relatively new and is spreading slowly across Canada. It provides an opportunity for the families of the veterans to purchase a banner as a tribute to a family member or friend.
By taking part in this project, the families are encouraging everyone to remember the men and women that have served, and continue to serve our country, affording us the freedoms we enjoy today.
