DIDSBURY - Hundreds of residents attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Zion Church in Didsbury on Nov. 11, paying tribute to local solders who died in war and thanking past and current Canadian Armed Forces.

The 3025 Service Battalion Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps spearheaded and hosted the ceremony, with members of the Didsbury-based cadet group welcoming guests and serving in the flag party.

Cadet Reese Blatz said recognizing Remembrance Day is an important community duty.

“It is a day to remember and honour,” said Blatz. “I do think it is very important because it means something to families of people who lost their lives in wars. It’s good to honour their losses as a way of showing respect.”

The service saw the Didsbury Valley Voices perform the national anthem and several other musical numbers.

RCMP Chaplain Colin Creighton provided the address and benediction, and Royal Canadian Legion representative Gavin Smith recited the honour roll.

The Last Post and Reveillie were performed by Ret’d Major Teena Trick-Wilks.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of federal, provincial and local governments, as well as by service organizations, community groups and others.
