DIDSBURY - Town council has decided to have the strategic planning committee review what might be done with the town’s portion of the Mountain View Summer Games Legacy Fund.
The fund has been dissolved with the proceeds being divided among municipalities in the district based on per capita. The town’s portion is $17,296.89.
“This fund, which was held by the Town of Olds, was accessed by high-level athletes to support their journey to global competition, such as world cups and Olympics,” said Ethan Gorner, the town's chief administrative officer. “There has been no requests for funding to this committee for the past nine years, and this lack of applications under this program was the reason for the dissolution of both the committee and the funding program.”
Administration has recommended that the issue of what to do with the town’s portion of the funds be referred to the strategic planning committee, which will come back to council with recommendations.
Other municipalities in the district are also currently considering what to do with their respective portions of the legacy funds.
The Alberta Summer Games were held in the Mountain View County area in 1983.
