Competitors shine at Didsbury rodeo

Foothills Cowboy Association-sanctioned event draws contestants from across the province

DIDSBURY – The Didsbury Agricultural Society's Foothills Cowboy Association Rodeo drew in visitors and competitors from far and wide Aug. 16 – 18.

The stands were packed at the agricultural society’s rodeo grounds Friday and Saturday for an evening and afternoon of spills and thrills in the rodeo ring.

When the dust settled, Jace Lomheim of Hughenden took first in bareback with a score 73.

Westen Wade of Condor placed first in bull riding with a score of 71.

Clay Greenslade’s 71 atop Homeboy won the Strathmore cowboy a first place in saddle bronc.

Brendan Niemi won first place in novice horse riding while Grayson Gardner’s 76.5 ride won him first place in junior steer riding.

All six contestants in junior bull riding scored zero.

Blair Smith won first place in tie-down roping with a score of 10.7.

Tyrell Ward took first in steer wrestling  with a score of 4.5.

The Stettler combo of Caleb Fawcett/Matt Fawcett won first place in team roping with a score of 7.5.

In ladies breakaway, Kobi Steenbergen of Alhambra took first place with a score of 3.6.

Stettler's Whip Gertner was the first place winner in junior breakaway with a score of 2.5.

In ladies barrel racing, Elaina Black rose to the top with a score of 16.82 while Sierrah Kendze took first in junior barrel racing with a score of 16.97.
