DIDSBURY - Town council is calling on residents to adhere to COVID-19 prevention measures enacted by the province.

The move came by way of motion at a recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held by teleconference.

Put forward by Coun. Dorothy Moore, the motion reads as follows:

“That in the best interest and wellbeing of our community, that council support the Chief Medical Officer (of Health, CMO) and strongly encourage that our residents and businesses to continue to follow the recommendations of the public health orders as set out by the Province of Alberta for all measures and recommended practices relating to COVID-19.”

The motion also included an instruction to administration to ensure COVID-19 information, including contact information for Alberta Health Services, is posted on the municipality’s website until the pandemic ends.

Mayor Rhonda Hunter said adhering to provincial recommendations will help keep town residents safe.

“This council has always had the will to respect and follow the CMO,” said Hunter.

During the Nov. 24 council meeting, councillor discussed the possibility of the town preparing a mask bylaw for possible future use, although in the end no motion was passed instructing administration to prepare a bylaw.

Also during the Nov. 24 meeting, CAO Ethan Gorner gave council an update on recent COVID-19 prevention measures announced by the province.
