DIDSBURY - The Didsbury Aquatic Centre and the arena have both been very busy in recent months as more and more residents and visitors makes use of the local facilities, with revenues on track with 2023 projections, according to the town's chief administrative officer Ethan Gorner.
His monthly report was presented at a recent council meeting, held in person and on YouTube.
The report outlines recent activities at town facilities and elsewhere in the municipality and is presented to update council.
“January to March 2023 were exceptionally busy for the Didsbury Aquatic Centre, with the bulk of our school swim lessons occurring during this time frame,” said Gorner.
“A Bronze Medallion course was hosted in February, which is the first step in our lifeguarding certification program. Passes for the facility were selling fast, and 43 per cent of the annual budget for passes was achieved within Q1. All other revenues are on track for this time period.”
Regarding the arena, he said, “The first quarter of 2023 was very busy within the area, which in addition to our regular use, was host to three tournaments, an ice carnival and the Mountain View Colts playoffs between January and March.
“Ice removal occurs at the end of March in preparation for our spring season, hosting two lacrosse clubs and an inline hockey club. All revenues for in-season use are on track for 2023.”
A number of 2023 capital projects are underway by the community services team keeping very busy, preparing and procuring the improvements.
Those projects include exterior painting of the Didsbury Train Station, plus deck, ramp and railing repairs, replacement of two HVAC units at the curling rink, repairs and replacement lobby floors in the main entry and pool entry at the Memorial Complex, and landscaping on the Memorial Complex grounds, he said.
Town staff members are continuing with the final phases of the south central commercial drainage improvements on 21st Street from 15th Avenue to 18th Avenue.
That project includes the replacement of 250 metres of water main, replacement of 200 metres of sanitary main, 160 metres of stormwater main, replacement of 160 metres of sidewalk, 150 new metres of sidewalk, and the replacement of asphalt surface from 15th Avenue to 18th Avenue.
