DIDSBURY - For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, Mountain View Dinner Theatre Projects is staging a play, with two shows scheduled for December.
Written by Calgary playwright Karen Ashton, Misdeeds at Mount Shaft is a whodunit murder mystery featuring a cast of 12, says actor and co-director Derek Lewis.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed that everything will come together,” Lewis told the Albertan.
Rehearsals got underway in early September and were continuing last week. The actors in the play are both locals and friends of locals, he said.
The role of Inspector Bird is played by longtime district actor Tony Silvestre, who is also co-directing the play with Lewis.
Both men have roles in the play, which opens Dec. 10 at the Elks Hall in Didsbury, with another show scheduled for Dec. 17, also at the hall.
“With the murder mystery there is audience participation. Audience members will be invited to guess who done it, so to speak, and there will be a prize given to the winner or winners,” he said.
There are plans to consider further shows in other communities after the December Didsbury productions, he said.
“Hopefully we will be getting some bookings in outlying communities,” he said.
