DIDSBURY — A local company has donated $10,000 to the Olds & District Hospice Society (ODHS) for the third year in a row.
Andrew Arnill, the operations manager of Didsbury-based West Can Seal Coating Inc., says he and his brother, Matthew, the company president, did so because they want to give back to the community.
Hospice care is a type of health care that focuses on making a person’s end of life journey as comforting as possible.
During an interview, Arnill was asked why they’ve given so much money, a total of $30,000 over the past three years, to the ODHS.
“In these times right now it’s just good to give back if you’re able to and we are a big community supporter,” he said.
“Everyone at some point in their life, it’s probably going to be part of our journey, so it’s good to support (them).”
Arnill said no one in their immediate family has had to use the services of ODHS, but they know some people who have used hospice services in Ontario.
“I guess it hits you more as you get older and your friends get older, but no one quite specifically, just family friends had to use the service and people we know,” he said.
“Just more than anything it’s just good to support and give back to the community that’s helped us. We're proud supporters, that’s what I can say.”
ODHS executive director Mary Smith said the Arnills told her that they’re aware that the need for hospice care continues to grow and they are honoured to be able to support the organization.
She described them both as “truly amazing community-minded individuals.”
The company moved to Didsbury from Brooks in 2000.
