Didsbury Elks hold successful 37th annual parade, pancake breakfast

An estimated 500 people were served breakfast at the Elks hall prior to parade

DIDSBURY – The Didsbury Elks put on its 37th Annual Parade and Pancake Breakfast Aug. 17 to an appreciative crowd.

Organizer Margo Ward estimated that the Didsbury Elks Club served breakfast to over 500 people inside the club’s hall before the parade got underway Saturday morning.

The theme this year was Salute to Didsbury: Celebrating our hometown.

Parade winners included:

• Commercial float: 1. The Farm Table 2. Merchant Ship 3. Balance Hearing

• Non-commercial float: 1. Didsbury Municipal Library 2. Ramblers hockey 3. The United Church

• Antique open: 1. Maurice Leaver 2. Willy Petersen 3. Bruce Smith

• Harness horse, horse and carriage: 1. Schwizer’s Belgian Haflinger 2. Anna Schwizer Belgian and thoroughbred cross 3. Monika Honey Company Belgian thoroughbred crosses

• Horse & riders: 1. Bowden Rodeo Queen 2. Pete Knight Rodeo Queen 3. Strathmore Rodeo Queen.

Ward gave thanks to the United Church, The Town of Didsbury and the numerous volunteers for helping to get both events off the ground without any major hitches.
