DIDSBURY - About 100 Didsbury High School students are self-isolating after three positive COVID-19 cases were identified late last week, says school superintendent Kurt Sacher.

Chinook's Edge School Division is not permitted to say whether the three cases involve students or staff, he said.

The school has 299 students in grades 9-12, and 34 total staff members.

“We have approximately 100 students and about eight staff members self-isolating,” Sacher said on Tuesday, March 2.

With two or more positive cases, the school has been moved into alert status.

“On the side of caution we have gone through all the protocols around who needs to self-isolate and for how long. Alberta Health has been in contact with us,” he said.

The school remains open, with the isolated students receiving online learning at home, he said.

“We feel confident that we still have enough staff and we still have enough students to serve, so at the moment we haven’t made any decision of that nature (to go completely online),” he said. “We are doing the best we can to keep the learning moving forward.”

The period of isolation for the students and staff should end sometime next week, he said.
