DIDSBURY - Conceptional renderings and blueprints for the Didsbury Muncipal Library expansion project have been released as the town awaits a reply from a recent federal grant application that could provide up to $1 million in matching funding for the project.
The renovation project will see the existing library expanded into the adjacent former Town of Didsbury office. Once completed the renovations will nearly double the size of the existing library.
A joint effort between the Town of Didsbury and the Didsbury Municipal Library Board, planning for the project has been in the works for several years.
The conceptional renderings include a draft interior floor plan, which shows a reading area, featured area, program room, staff room, and several enclosed meeting/work rooms.
Conceptional renderings of the exterior of the upgraded library were also released.
“The floor plan that has been created provides a combination of features and strategic placement of spaces endorsed by library personnel,” said mayor Rhonda Hunter.
“The exterior heritage facade will further enhance the appeal and beauty of our historic downtown.”
The library project recently applied for a provincial Community Facilities Enhancement Program (CFEP) grant for the project.
A timeline for construction of the expansion project has not been released.
The former Town of Didsbury office is currently being temporarily renovated to be used as a set for the movie Under the Banner of Heaven. Shooting of the film is scheduled to take place this fall.
