DIDSBURY - As required by the provincial Municipal Government Act (MGA), council has approved the 2025-29 multi-year capital plan.

The move came by way of motion at the recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting.

The document is a planning tool for administration to use to prepare future budgets for council consideration.

The plan must include a brief description of each project, the anticipated year of the project, and the project funding source.

“It is not required that the plan balances,” administration said in a briefing note. “This offers valuable insight into financial deficits and serves as a guide for he annual budgeting process. Council is required under the MGA to review the plan annually.

“Once approved, the plan continues to work as a planning tool and starting point for the upcoming annual budgeting process. The projects on the plan will only go ahead if and when approved as part of the annual capital budget.”

Projects outlined in the plan for 2025 include thermal imaging camera ($18,000), street sweeper replacement ($400,000), 15th Avenue mill and overlay ($250,000), 7th Avenue west mill and overlay ($300,000), Westhill Drive and 23rd Street stormwater pipe replacement ($180,000), electronic speed sign ($50,000), refinish pool basin ($100,000) and digital entrance sign ($50,000).

Another project proposed for 2025 is a multi-court system (tennis, pickleball, basketball and volleyball) at the Didsbury Memorial Complex Jets Park, at cost of $260,000.

As far as funding sources, grants proposed to be used in 2025 total $1.294 million and reserves of $744,568.

Put forward by Coun. Dorothy Moore, a motion accepting the five-year plan was carried unanimously by council.
