DIDSBURY - Town of Didsbury administration will be continuing to gather input into the proposed 2022 capital budget and 2022-27 multi-year plan, with the intention of bringing the documents back to council for further consideration on Jan. 11, says the municipality's chief administrative officer Ethan Gorner.
The multi-year plan includes several proposed projects at Didsbury Memorial Complex, including the addition of a multi-court system for tennis, pickleball, basketball and volleyball.
The budget and plan came before councillors at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting following a Dec. 8 public budget meeting.
The 2022-27 multi-year plan outlines proposed capital projects for non-recreation buildings, protective services - machinery and equipment, public works and utilities - machinery and equipment, public works and utilities - infrastructure, communications, cemetery - infrastructure, recreation and parks - building and land improvements, Didsbury Memorial Complex outlying plan, and annual replacement plans.
The plan calls for spending $2,878,100 in 2023, $5,386,058 in 2024, $3,782,377 in 2025, $2,211,031 in 2026, and $3,573,056 in 2027.
Proposed Didsbury Memorial Complex projects included four-season washroom/picnic shelter for $150,000 in 2023, multi-court system for $260,000 in 2024, and additional parking on the north side for $80,000 in 2025.
Proposed public works and utilities - infrastructure projects include Phase 2 construction on 21st Street (15th Avenue) storm, water, sanitary and surface works for $796,000 in 2023. As well, $195,000 is proposed to be spent on Highway 582/23rd Street intersection Phase 1 design and tender in 2023.
The 2022 capital budget includes proposed infrastructure, land improvement, building, vehicle and equipment items. It also outlines proposed funding sources, including grants, operations and reserves.
Proposed infrastructure projects include 21st Street storm, water, sanitary and surface work Phase 1 - construction ($1,050,000); 21st Street storm, water, sanitary and surface work Phase 2 - design ($84,000); 23rd Street north resurfacing ($100,000); Co-op Road water, sanitary, storm and surface work design $70,000; and 21st Avenue storm and surface works ($300,000).
Proposed land improvement items include Didsbury Memorial Complex outlying plan pathway and landscaping Phase 1 ($150,000); Deer Coulee/cemetery pathway replacement ($51,000); and columbarium purchase and installation ($35,000).
Total cost of all the proposed projects is $2,994,500, of which $158,500 would be funded from operations, $827,200 from reserves, and $1.2 million from Municipal Sustainability Initiative grants.
