DIDSBURY - Town council has made number of updates to the town’s Municipal Elections Bylaw 2020-14 and made several appointments in preparation for the Oct. 18, 2021 municipal election.

The moves came by way of motion at a recent regularly scheduled council meeting, held by teleconference.

Regarding nomination day for the election, council made an amendment stating that nomination papers will now be accepted until noon on nomination day, which takes place four weeks before election day.

As well, if enough nominations are not received on nomination day, the deadline will be extended to the next business day and on subsequent days until enough nominations are received.

All nomination forms must now be accompanied by a deposit of $100.

Regarding election signs, signs in 2021 must be in accordance with the Town of Didsbury land use bylaw and can be displayed during an election period, referendum or plebiscite.

Voting stations in the municipality will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day 2021.

Council passed a motion appointing Luana Smith as the returning officer for the 2021 election, with Deborah Porath appointed substitute returning officer.

During the council meeting, councillors also passed a motion appointing Smith as the Town of Didsbury’s Freedom of Information and Protection Act coordinator, replacing outgoing coordinator Maxine Moreau.
