DIDSBURY – Town council has passed the municipality’s 2020 operating budget, which calls for a 3.3 per cent reduction in spending compared with 2019.
The move came by way of motion at the May 12 council meeting, which was held by teleconference.
The operating budget calls for total expenditures of $11,523,862, down from $11,899,872 last year.
The total tax support requirement is $4,676,174, down from $4,837,046 or 3.3 per cent from 2019.
“We are very impressed with that 3.3 per cent and the work that everyone and our administrative team did to find those savings and get this where it needs to be,” mayor Rhonda Hunter said during the meeting.
The operating budget calls for council expenses of $250,184, down $14,311 from 2019.
Community services expenses are $520,655, down $79,075 from last year.
Recreational services expenses are $2,162,076, down $282,422 from last year.
Culture (library and museum) expenses are $349,222, down $34,199 from 2019.
Protective services expenses are $1,660,626, up $179,465 from last year’s total of $1,481,161.
Planning and development expenses are $733,936, down $313,026 from last year.
Public works expenses are $1,872,267, up $182,403 from last year’s total of $1,689,864.
Utilities expenses are $2,958,821, down $32,749 from 2019.
