DIDSBURY - Didsbury RCMP officers were certainly kept busy this spring, conducting more than a dozen serious investigations, according to the fourth quarter report presented to town council.
Didsbury RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Steve Browne appeared as a delegation to present the report and the detachment’s multi-year financial plan.
He told council that officers conducted investigations into assaults, sexual assaults, break and enters, and weapons and drug offences.
In all, 13 serious investigations were conducted, resulting in numerous charges.
Those investigations included an assault causing bodily harm case where one adult was charged, assault with a weapon case with one adult charged, possession of stolen property involving a laptop computer, power tools and possession of methamphetamine with one adult charged, possession of a firearm with one adult charged, assault with a weapon and uttering threats with one adult charged.
Other cases included a domestic violence assault with one adult charged, theft of a truck with one adult charged, and mischief over $5,000 with one adult charged.
“During this reporting period Didsbury members arrested 22 offenders through target patrols and release order compliance checks,” Browne said.
During the arrest of two prolific property offenders officers seized 29 grams of fentanyl, 40 grams of methamphetamine, 13 grams of cocaine and eight grams of crack cocaine.
“During the reporting period, traffic enforcement resulted in 23 motorists being charged for moving and non-moving driving offences within the town of Didsbury,” he said.
There were a total of 27 persons crimes and 44 property crimes reported.
Community consultations during the reporting period included officer attendance at the Mountain View County Division 3 community engagement event, meetings with elected officials including mayors and CAOs, and meetings with Chinook Arch Victims Services, he said.
Deputy mayor Curt Engel commended local RCMP officers for their recent efforts.
“I think our community is really lucky to have the group that we have in our detachment working as hard ass they do,” said Engel.
Council accepted Browne’s report as information.
