DIDSBURY - Town council has reallocated $367,600 to the water infrastructure reserve fund from a reserve for RCMP costs for the purpose of helping to fund the east reservoir project.
The move came by way of motion at the recent regularly scheduled council meeting.
The financial planning committee recently reviewed the RCMP contract policy reserve and recommended the reallocation.
The contract reserve was set up in 2018 to help cover RCMP costs. As of Oct. 31, 2023, the reserve contained a total of $465,575.
“The committee considered the amount required to remain in the RCMP contract policing reserve and determined that further retro pay amounts may be similar to the current year balance and, therefore, is recommended that $50,000 remain in the reserve fund for future costs related to contract policy, such as future retro pay amounts,” Ethan Gorner, chief administrative officer said in a briefing note to council.
The committee recommended that $44,843 remain available in the reserve to fund the payment of the outstanding retro pay invoice due March 31, 2025.
The committee is also recommending that $3,127 go towards funding the overage on the RCMP parking lot project.
The committee considered the greatest need for the remaining funds and determined that the excess amount of approximately $367,600 be moved to the water infrastructure reserve fund to help fund the east reservoir project.
Council passed a motion approving all three of the committee recommendations.
The RCMP contract policing reserve’s current balance is $94,843.67.
Coun. Ethan Williams did not attend the recent council meeting.
