DIDSBURY - A number of local utility rates and fees increase on January 1, 2025 after council approved Bylaw 2024-12 Utility Charges Bylaw at a recent regularly-scheduled council meeting.
The utility services – water, wastewater and solid waste departments – are all self-supported departments, meaning their operating budgets are funded primarily through utility charges and not through tax revenue.
Residential solid waste service charges updates include solid waste service monthly fee $20.85 (up from $19.75 this year), additional black bin service $7.30 (from $7), additional blue bin $4.85 (from $4.65), additional green bin $2.30 (from $2.25), and replacement bin $120 (from $110).
Water service charge updates include infrastructure fee connections with meters one inch or less $22.75 (from $18.15), infrastructure fee connections meters from 1 1/4 inch to two inch $91 (from $72.50), infrastructure fee connections with meters three to four inches $204.75 (from $16.15).
Wastewater service charges updates include monthly infrastructure fee one inch or under $10 (from $9.15), infrastructure fee connections 1 1/4 inch to two inch $40.75 (from $36.65), infrastructure fee connections three inch or more $91.70 (from $82.55).
The wastewater distribution rate is $1.45 (down from $1.50) and the wastewater distribution rate for users without water service is $26.75 (from $24.10).
Utility penalties on overdue balances increases to two per cent per month, up from 1.5 per cent this year.
