DIDSBURY - The planned Didsbury & District Chamber of Commerce Women in Agri-Business conference scheduled for March 19 in Didsbury has been cancelled due to low ticket sales.
Marlene Aubrey, a director and interim office manager with the Didsbury chamber of commerce, said the decision to cancel was regrettable but unavoidable.
“There just weren’t enough ticket sales,” she said. “It’s wasn’t enough to make it profitable. It’s a shame because it was a great success last year.”
About 125 participants had been expected to attend the conference at the Didsbury Zion Church.
As in 2023, this year’s conference aimed to recognize the vital role women play in agri-business, while providing information on improving leadership skills and providing network opportunities that can help women to succeed in the industry, chamber officials told Didsbury town council last month.
Mayor Rhonda Hunter attended the 2023 conference and she said it is a worthwhile initiative.
The hope is to have a conference in 2025, but a final decision on that hasn’t been made, Aubrey said.
That conference may need to be held either earlier or later in the year since many people are very busy with calving season at this time, she said.
