DIDSBURY – The Town of Didsbury's council was recently updated on preparations for a possible drought this year and a review of the municipal development plan.
“The Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission (of which Didsbury is a member) has established two committees: a technical and a drought committee,” the town's chief administrative officer, Ethan Gorner told council.
The technical committee will review and consider a number of drought-related concerns, including impacts on water restriction levels, community impacts, and bulk water usage.
Meanwhile, the drought committee will review the commission’s restriction policy and review service and policy consistency between member communities.
“The town takes the recommendations from the province and commission seriously and is currently undergoing a review of the Didsbury Water Bylaw and will bring forward recommendations to the policy and governance committee,” he said.
Additionally, Gorner’s report included an update about the ongoing municipal development plan review.
“The town’s planner received a draft municipal development plan document from the consultants in mid-December,” he said. “After a thorough review of the document, a revised draft is now being circulated to internal departments for review.”
Once the departments have looked over the draft and provided input, a consolidated version will be prepared and brought before council for consideration, he said.
“It is anticipated that the draft will be brought to council for first reading and the setting of public hearing in spring 2024,” he said.
The municipal development plan is a high-level document that governs development throughout the municipality.
Council accepted Gorner’s report as information.
