DIDSBURY - Town council was provided with an update on a recent table top emergency management exercise held by area municipalities and others.
The Mountain View Regional Emergency Management Agency (MVREMA) exercise took place July 6. It was mandated by the Emergency Management Act and is a tool used to gain experience with the incident command system used by Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) for response control and documentation.
The exercise was facilitated by Brian Boutin of the AEMA and saw more than a dozen people take part.
Craig Fox, director of emergency management with the town and chair of MVREMA, was pleased with both the participation and the results of the exercise, saying tabletop exercises are critical for emergency management of both a local and regional level, said Ethan Gorner, the Town of Didsbury's chief administrative officer.
“A commitment to training, current information and resources, and building and maintaining relationships with our municipal partners are the keys to success of both MVREMA and our ability to address emergency situations that might arise within Mountain View County,” he said.
“Overall, the exercise was a success with several takeaways and opportunities for improvement. The primary purpose for exercises is to ensure training opportunities for members and the emergency management teams within each municipal organization.”
The town is planning to conduct its own tabletop exercise as soon as possible to comply with the legislation, he said.
