DIDSBURY – A fundraising campaign started in April in support of residents in Mountain View Seniors' Housing (MVSH) lodges has raised more than $12,000, officials said.
The campaign was spearheaded by the Mountain View Seniors' Housing Foundation and recently saw Ipads and other equipment purchased for residents to use in the four MVSH lodges, in Olds, Didsbury, Carstairs and Sundre.
Resident Roy Luyendyk is one of the many seniors who have made use of the new Ipads. In his case, it has allowed him to virtually visit his wife Jean, who is in long-term care in Didsbury.
“They are a great rig,” he says of the Ipads.
Residents use the machines to conduct Facebook and Zoom conversations and visits.
Mountain View Seniors' Housing Foundation president Ralene McCulloch says the generosity of donors has been heart-warming and very much appreciated by lodge residents and their families.
The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that lodge residents cannot receive in-person visits from family and friends, except in extraordinary situations.

The foundation supports MVSH lodges and is a registered charity established in 2002. It is intended to be a vehicle through which funds can be raised to assist the work of MVSH.
In related news, the foundation is currently accepting nominee applications for its board of directors.
Officials are looking for new directors who “are committed, reliable and great communicators, have strong support leadership skills, will commit for a minimum of two years."
