DIDSBURY - Town council has approved updates to the town’s financial assistance for athletic excellence policy, previously called the financial assistance for recognition of athletic achievement.
The move came by way of motion at the Jan. 23 council meeting, held in person and online.
The program was developed to provide modest support for Didsbury athletes and teams that have qualified to attend high levels of competition. The program is supported by funds received through the disbanded Mountain View Summer Games Legacy Fund.
Changes approved include directing applications to the community services department for review and presentation to council, with final decisions on funding remaining with council.
The policy updates also include increasing the maximum grant value to $2,000 from the previous $1,500 maximum.
As well, the name of the program was changed to better describe the intent of the program.
Policy and governance committee chairman and deputy mayor Curt Engel told council the changes were recommended through consensus by the committee.
Proclamation policy also updated
Council also approved a revision of the council proclamation policy, adding an item to the standards section that reads: “In the event that special local recognition is warranted, will be considered in accordance with the council recognition policy.”
Council also approved changes to the council remuneration policy to include clarification on submission and approval of council remuneration forms and the requirement to submit council reports on professional development to claim time under the policy.
The policy and governance committee recommended the changes to both the proclamation policy and the remuneration policy.
Coun. Ethan Williams did not attend the Jan. 23 council meeting.
