DIDSBURY - Residents are being invited to provide input into the proposed Creekside area structure plan (ASP) for 51 hectares of land located on the town’s northeast boundary at NW 19-31-01-W5.

Associated Engineering, on behalf of the landowner, has prepared the proposed ASP to act as a framework to guide future subdivision and development of the land in Didsbury, including residential, industrial and public open space growth and development.

The plan area would host up to 233 new residential lots, 15 new industrial lots, and more than 17 hectares of municipal and environmental reserve space including the Rosebud River.

Mayor Rhonda Hunter says the town welcomes proposals for much-needed new housing.

“We know that Didsbury needs housing so it’s going to be an interesting proposal and presentation,” Hunter told the Albertan. “Everybody knows that Didsbury has a high demand for housing so we are happy to see these developers interested in developing land in the municipality.”

A statement about the proposal was posted on the town’s website last week, reading in part: “Creekside proposes to develop a high-quality neighbourhood that provides a combination of residential and economic development.

“High-quality neighbourhoods are designed to be walkable and well connected with the greater community. A variety of housing options provide choices for residents, while safely and comfortable accommodating people of ages.”

A public open house is scheduled to take place in the town office on Nov. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The open house will offer the public an “opportunity to view key components of the proposed plan and to provide their perspective and comments prior to the consideration of the application by town council in December.

“A series of display boards will be available for public viewing (and) members of the project team and town administration will be in attendance to answer questions regarding the proposed development and to collect feedback to be presented at the public hearing before council consideration.”

A public hearing hosted by the Town of Didsbury council is scheduled for Dec. 13. Council was also scheduled to receive an update on the project at the Nov. 8 meeting.
