DIDSBURY — About a dozen local kids took part in a conservation promotion event at the Kinsmen Park on July 28, learning about how to recognize and protect animals in their community.
The Who’s In Your Backyard presentation was part of the Didsbury Municipal Library’s TD Summer Reading Club’s Play in Nature themed week, said coordinator Brittany van Vlaanderen.
“We learned about animals near us, how to recognize them, how to spot clues that mean they are nearby, and how to take care of them,” said van Vlaanderen.
“We were able to look at things like porcupine quills, antlers, fur, scales, nest and prevent animal scat.”
Wednesday's event was conducted by Katrina Terrill with the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation.
The TD Summer Reading Club is a free, drop-in program for children between the ages of 5 and 12 and is running Monday to Friday until Aug. 20.
“This program primarily takes place in Kinsmen Park, with a few exceptions, which has provided an excellent opportunity for the library to connect to our community and promote literacy by playing and reading outside together,” van Vlaanderen said.
The program is accepting registrations on the library’s website or in person at the library, she said.
