DIDSBURY - The livestreaming of council meetings on YouTube, which began in January 2023, has seen more than 1,200 views of recordings of the proceedings, council heard at a recent regularly scheduled meeting.
A report on council chamber livestreams was presented to council, including recent work by the performance evaluation committee to examine possible improvements.
Council meetings are broadcast live on the YouTube channel, with the recording of the broadcasts then made available for subsequent public viewing.
Recent improvements have been made to ensure good quality of livestream and recorded viewing, council heard.
“Internet stability was previously an issue and has since been resolved. Sound continues to be an issue, especially if users are not speaking directly into their microphones," said Coun. Dorothy Moore, committee chair.
In August, council directed the performance evaluation committee to review possible upgrades.
The committee met and requested administration conduct an audit on the current livestream setup, as well as secure a quote on additional possibilities for livestreaming and sound quality within council chambers.
Administration met with an audio-visual company to prepare a proposal for council chambers, which was then presented to the committee.
Earlier, the committee recommended that the livestream of council meetings continue with no changes to the current process.
Council carried a motion accepting the committee report as information.
