DIDSBURY - The Town of Didsbury's council has approved an amendment to the municipality's land use bylaw to include a new definition for dwelling unit that now allows occupancy of an owner, operator or caretaker.
The approval came by way of motion following a recent public hearing.
The update to the land use bylaw is tied to the recently approved updated municipal development plan.
“Administration has recognized that the use of dwelling unit: occupancy of the owner, operator or caretaker has come up in several proposed development inquires in both the industrial and commercial districts,” administration told council during the public hearing.
“During the drafting of the new municipal development plan, a policy was included in the MDP to support such a use. With the support of this use not included in the MDP, administration is proposing an amendment to the land use bylaw so that it aligns with the MDP.”
Administration has not receive any letters of comments or concerns about the proposed amendments, council heard.
The approved change to the land use bylaw includes a definition of “dwelling unit: occupancy of the owner, operator or caregiver as a discretionary use to the following districts: commercial district - general, commercial district - highway, commercial district - core, residential/commercial district, and industrial district - general.”
Coun. Dorothy Moore said, “This is a really positive thing. This does come up often in our MPC (municipal planning commission). It is a very positive thing and I’m very much in favour of it.”
Council carried the amendment unanimously.
