DIDSBURY - The Mountain View Colts 2022-23 season is in the books after the team fell 4-1 in Game 5 of the north division semifinals against Airdrie Techmation Thunder on March 1.
Played in front of another large crowd at the Didsbury Memorial Complex Arena, the game saw Airdrie get out to a 3-0 lead enroute to the win.
The Colts got their lone goal from Haiden Parks, unassisted, late in the third, with the Thunder getting an empty net goal in the final minute to seal the win.
Colts netminder Chance Griffith stopped 29 of 32 shots.
The Colts won Game 1 and Game 4 in the series after defeating the Three Hills Thrashers in the quarter-finals.
The Heritage Junior B Hockey League Colts finished the regular season in third place in the north division with 21 wins, 15 losses and two overtime losses.
First-year head coach Dan Visser says he was a bit disappointed that the Colts didn’t go further in the playoffs but “it’s hockey and that’s the way it goes sometimes,” he said.
Overall he was pleased with how his first season as head coach went.
“I learned lots this season and having Gord Olsen (former head coach and an assistant coach in 2022-23) to help me along the way was a huge bonus,” he said.
He also commended general manager Karen Rothenbusch for “all the hard work she does for the team.”
Visser confirms he will be back as head coach for the Colts’ 2023-24 season.
