DIDSBURY – Intermunicipal cooperation and collaboration are at the heart of two national awards recently handed out to the Mountain View Regional Film Office (MVRFO), says Didsbury mayor Rhonda Hunter.
A partnership between Mountain View County as well as the towns of Sundre and Didsbury, the Didsbury-headquartered office promotes movie and TV filming in the area, including help finding film locations in the district. Projects involved have included the Fargo series.
The MVRFO was awarded two national awards from the Economic Development Association of Canada at its recent annual convention.
“This is truly a shining example of how collaboration and cooperation between municipalities should work,” Hunter said in a release. “The exposure we get from these unique, creative and innovative projects benefits the residents, business and visitors in our communities.”
Sundre’s mayor Richard Warnock added, “The Mountain View Regional Film Office highlights the creative solutions that be can accomplished through regional collaboration.”
The office won awards in the Community Collaboration category and the Promotional Video category.
The winning video was created by local photographer/videographer Kai Mrazik. It outlines some of the benefits of filming in the district.
Mountain View County Reeve Angela Aalbers said, “The exposure generated by our unique and innovative projects benefits not only our residents and businesses, but also attracts visitors to our communities, presenting numerous opportunities for the film and tourism industries.”
Winning the awards will translate into increased attention for the towns and county and might lead to further filming and tourism opportunities in the district, Economic Development Association of Canada officials said.
