DIDSBURY - The Mountainview Colts dropped two of three games over the weekend while also raising money for cancer research.
The Heritage Junior B Hockey League Colts hosted the Red Deer Vipers at the Centennial Place Arena in Three Hills on Friday, Jan. 31.
The Colts got goals from Seth Sideroff (assist Rhett Miller) and Cohen Richardson (assist Ryder Hammer) in a 4-2 loss to their north division rivals.
Colts netminders Jordan McGinnis and Nicholas Smith stopped ten of 14 shots they faced.
The game served as the Colts' Ride for Dad charity hockey game, raising $15,260 in support of the Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation.
The money was raised through a variety of methods, including pledge sheets, donations, a raffle table and a jersey auction.
Head coach Ron Doig commended the players, Colt supporters and everyone else involved for another great fundraising event.
“Everyone was pleased,” he told the Albertan.
Since starting more than a decade ago, the annual Colts charity game has raised more than $250,000.
The Colts are playing their home games at neighbouring arenas this season due a mechanical breakdown at the Didsbury Memorial Complex.
On Saturday, Feb. 1 the Colts hosted the Rocky Rams at the Cremona Ag Society Community Arena.
The Colts got goals from Richardson, Tristan Visser (assist Miller), Konnor Poitras (assist Simon Leischner), Visser (assist Blake Stoddard and Hammer), Miller (assist Zane Labbe) for a 5-2 win.
On Sunday, Feb. 2 the Colts travelled to Okotoks to take on the Bisons at the Murray & Piper Arena.
The Colts got goals form Kai Biggin (assists Corbin Rae and Miller) and Simon Leischner (assists Sawyer Loree and Biggin) in a 4-2 loss.
Colts netminder McGinnis stopped 28 of 32 shots.
Colt netminder Smith stopped 35 of 37 shots for the win.
On Sunday the Colts travelled to Okotoks for a game against the Bisons at the Murray & Piper Arena.
The Colts are in Three Hills this Friday to take on the Thrashers, followed by a Saturday matchup in Sylvan Lake again the Wranglers.
