Mountainview Colts' HJHL playoff run ends in overtime loss

The victory gave Red Deer a 3-1 best-of-five series win.

DIDSBURY - The Mountainview Colts 2024-25 season came to an end Saturday night with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Deer Vipers.

Game 4 of the teams’ north-division playoff round was played at the Carstairs Memorial Arena, with the Colts being the home team.

The Colts got goals from Aidan Saunders (assists Ryder Hammer and Zachary Wheatley) in the first and from Cohen Richardson (assists Saunders and Mitchell McDermid) in the second.

Viper Mason Sabasch scored the winner for Red Deer at 6:52 of the overtime period for a 3-2 win.

Colts Nicholas Smith stopped 29 of 32 shots he faced.

The victory gave Red Deer a 3-1 best-of-five series win.

The Colts finished with a winning record in the 2024-25 season, with 19 wins, 17 losses and two overtime losses for 40 points.

The Vipers now face off against the Sylvan Lake Wranglers in the next round of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League north division playoffs.
