DIDSBURY - Mountainview Colts officials are busy this week trying to find ice for practices and games for the remainder of the 2024-25 season after the Didsbury Memorial Complex arena was shutdown due to a major mechanical problem, said head coach Ron Doig.

“We are trying to get all games and practices in one facility,” Doig told the Albertan. “Right now we are scattered between Innisfail, Three Hills, Cremona and possibly Penhold or Trochu. We are hoping one place can accommodate everything.”

The arena and curling rink were closed for at least the next three months after following the discovery of an ammonia leak in a condenser unit/cooling tower at the facility last week.

“Due to the hazards and risks associated with ammonia breaches and for the safety of all users, staff, and the community, the arena and curling rink will both remain closed until such time that the unit can be replaced, which is estimated within the next three to four months,” town officials said.

The 2024/2025 Arena and Curling Rink season officially ended today, December 19.

The Colts are part of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League. As of Monday, their next home game is scheduled for Jan. 4 against Medicine Hat.
