Mountainview Colts start playoff action next week

DIDSBURY - The Mountainview Colts are in the Heritage Junior Hockey League playoffs starting next week.

The team has a bye for the first round, with the team’s first playoff opponent being the Red Deer Vipers. 

The teams will face off in the first game of the round 2 best-of-five series on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in Red Deer.

Meanwhile, the Colts finished regular season play last weekend splitting two games, defeating Three Hills and falling to Sylvan Lake.

On Friday, Feb. 7,  the Colts travelled to Three Hills to take on the Thrashers at the Centennial Place Arena.

The Colts got goals from Mitchell McDermid (assist Blake Stoddard), Haiden Parks (assist Ryder Hammer and Trey Mueller), Cohen Richardson (assist Hammer and Parks), Simon Leischner (assists Hammer and Richardson), and Rhett Miller for a 5-3 win.

Colts netminder Nicholas Smith stopped 34 of 37 shots he faced for the win.

The Colts travelled to Sylvan Lake on Saturday, Feb. 8 to take on the division-leading Wranglers.

The Colts got goals from Tristan Visser, Zachary Wheatley (assist Aidan Saunders), Tanner Austin (assist Miller), and Hammer in an 11-4 loss.

Colts netminders Jordan McGinnis and Smith stopped 33 of 44 shots they faced. The Colts managed 24 shots in the game.
