DIDSBURY - Despite dropping their first two games of the 2024-15 Heritage Junior B Hockey League season, the Mountainview Colts players are coming together as a team, says first-year head coach Ron Doig.

“Our team defence is already pretty strong,” Doig told the Albertan. “We weren’t giving up many chances and our goaltending is strong. We were strong defensively for sure.”

The Colts are home at the DMC Friday against the Cannex Cochrane Generals and then in Sylvan Lake for a Saturday away game.

Coach Doig says this week’s practice focused on creating scoring chances.

“We need to get pucks to the net,” he said.

The Colts have named veterans Simon Leischner and Haiden Parks co-captains for the new season.

The Colts dropped their season opener 2-0 against the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings at the Didsbury Memorial Complex (DMC), with the locals managing 26 shots over three periods.

The team travelled to Rocky Mountain House last Saturday, where they fell 3-1 to the Rams. Colts veteran Corbin Rae got the Colts’ goal with an assist from Tanner Austin.
