DIDSBURY - The Mountainview Colts are back home in action at the Memorial Complex Friday against the Carstar Okotoks Bisons, followed by a game in Red Deer against the Vipers on Saturday.
The weekend is going to be another huge task, said head coach Dan Visser, and the team was expected to prepare for it "with good energy practices."
The Colts were really on their game last weekend, defeating the Rocky Rams on the road Friday night and the Medicine Hat Cubs at the Memorial Complex Saturday night.
At the Rocky arena on Nov. 17, the Colts got goals from Haiden Parks (assists captain Paton Rothenbusch and Emmett Barnett), Jay Heistad (assist Mitchell McDermid), and the overtime winner from Blake Stoddard (assists Rothenbusch and Harley Smith) for the 3-2 win.
Colts netminder Jordan McGinnis stopped 15 of 17 shots in the victory.
Back home on Nov. 18, the Colts got goals from Tanner Austin (assist Corbin Rae), Cohen Richardson (assists Barnett and Parks), and Heistad (assists Aidan Saunders and Simon Leischner) for the 3-1 win.
McGinnis stopped 38 of 39 shots for his second win in two nights.
Visser said he was “very pleased” with his team’s effort over the weekend.
“When you can beat one of the top teams in the league (Rocky Rams), it shows the progress and the buy-in to how we want them to play,” Visser said.
“It’s a bonus getting our injured players back. Getting Emmett Barnett back on the blue line is huge for us. He’s a great puck moving defencemen with great vision of the ice and physicality.”
Visser said he also credits all Colts players for “knowing what their jobs are and sticking with it.”
The Colts are 7-7-3 so far this season, good for third in the north division, behind Rocky and Sylvan Lake.
