DIDSBURY - The innovative Pallets for Food project has provided a second round of funding for area food banks, including $1,000 to the Essentials for Our Community in Didsbury and $1,000 to the  Olds-based Mountain View Food Bank.

Made up of volunteers and based in Didsbury, Pallets for Food sees wooden pallets donated by area companies and repurposed and then sold with the proceeds going to support food banks. A total of $3,000 has been distributed in the second round.

“Cash donations that these food banks can use to purchase items they need to round out food products required to provide a greater nutritional balance of food products creating healthier meal choices,” said team leader Bill Morgan.

Pallets for Food operates out of the old Goles Feed Mill in Didsbury where the pallets are collected and worked on.

Once repurposed the pallets can bring in between $3 and $5 for the food banks, he said.

Organizers are always looking for pallets to repurpose, he said. Anyone interested in donating pallets or in receiving repurposed pallets can call Morgan at 403-672-0045 for pickup or delivery.
