DIDSBURY — A convoy of motorcyclists from the Rural Alberta Motorcycle Ride for Dad prostate cancer fundraiser will once again be hitting the road this weekend after not being able to hold the event last year.
Starting at the curling rink in Didsbury on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 18, the group will head out of town escorted by the local fire department as they make their way to Carstairs before their planned tour takes them back toward Water Valley, up north to Sundre through the Bergen area on Highway 760, from where they’ll be heading east to Olds along Highway 27 where they plan to stop for lunch.
The final portion of the roughly 330-kilometre loop will include riding out toward Bowden followed by a stint over to Highway 791 from where they’ll head back to the Co-op gas bar at the corner of Highway 2 and Highway 27 before finally making their way home to Didsbury, said Gil Enns, Rural Alberta Motorcycle Ride for Dad chair.
While the ride — which was last held in June 2019 — has in the past drawn out as many 75 registered riders, Enns said organizers had “absolutely no idea what kind of turnout” they could expect this year.
As a result, no fundraising goal was set this year, he said.
“We just want to get back into the swing of things,” he told The Albertan.
“We have a few new members that are not familiar with what we do and also, a lot of the members are rusty. So, we just want to get through this year and then hopefully we can go full bore again next spring.”
