DIDSBURY - Road conditions on Highway 2 between Didsbury and Airdrie continue to be in poor condition this afternoon, prompting RCMP to issue a warning.

Airdrie RCMP warned motorists on the afternoon of Dec. 24 to continue to avoid travel north of Airdrie.

“Non-Essential travel is not recommended and police are asking motorists to please slow down especially around emergency crews at work,” states an Airdrie RCMP press release issued at around noon today.

At the time the press release was issued, emergency crews were still on scene of multiple collisions on the Queen Elizabeth II (Highway 2) northbound. Road conditions were poor with black ice and blowing snow up to approximately the Didsbury area.

At about 6:20 a.m. this morning, Airdrie RCMP issued its first warning of the day, telling motorists to avoid travel on area highways.

“The RCMP are currently on scene of multiple collisions on the (Queen Elizabeth II) in both north and south directions.  Road conditions are poor with black ice,” the earlier release stated.
